Student Life

Life at NCS

At Northside, student life is about more than activities or events—it’s about belonging to a community that partners with families to develop the whole child. Every experience, from the classroom to the playing field, is designed to shape character, deepen relationships, and prepare students to thrive in every season of life.

Student life at Northside is intentionally woven into the fabric of our mission to nurture Christ-centered leaders. We believe that learning extends beyond textbooks and classrooms—it happens in friendships, service opportunities, team practices, chapel gatherings, and everyday moments of encouragement and accountability. With a balance of academics, athletics, fine arts, and spiritual formation, students discover their gifts, build lasting relationships, and grow in responsibility. Every Mustang is given the chance to explore, lead, and contribute, fostering resilience, joy, and purpose.

Activity Period

Several times each month, middle and high school students enjoy special activity periods that showcase the many ways NCS celebrates the whole student. These gatherings highlight student talents and achievements through fine arts performances, seasonal sports recognitions, pep rallies, academic awards ceremonies, and meaningful spiritual life programs.

Club Time

At Northside Christian School, developing the whole student—intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually—extends well beyond the classroom. The majority of our students are actively involved in fine arts and/or athletics, with practices, rehearsals, and competitions taking place nearly every day after school.

Recognizing that colleges value well-rounded students, NCS also builds extracurricular involvement into the school day by setting aside club time twice a month.

Students can explore a wide variety of academic and special-interest clubs, including:
  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes
  • Justice Club
  • Key Club
  • Mu Alpha Theta
  • National Honor Society
  • Senior Buddies
  • Spanish Honor Society
  • Student Council
Through these opportunities, students grow as leaders, discover new passions, and learn the value of service and community—all while building lasting friendships.

Homecoming

Homecoming Week at Northside Christian School is one of the most spirited times of the year, bringing together students, families, and alumni in celebration. The campus comes alive with hall decorations, themed dress-up days, class competitions, and high-energy pep rallies that unite the student body.

The week concludes with a full weekend of tradition and fun—highlighted by the homecoming football game, the crowning of the homecoming court, alumni gatherings, and the highly anticipated high school homecoming dance. These events create lasting memories and celebrate the Mustang spirit across generations.

Prom

Each spring, Northside Christian School juniors and seniors look forward to Prom—one of the most memorable events of the year. Hosted at off-campus venues that change annually, Prom reflects the unique theme chosen by the class and provides students with an evening of celebration, fellowship, and lasting memories.

Class Trips

Field trips are an essential part of the Northside Christian School experience, enriching classroom learning while also building community and lifelong memories. Students in grades K–12 have opportunities to explore new places, deepen their understanding of academic subjects, and share meaningful experiences with classmates and teachers.

Overnight trips are a highlight of student life and include the 5th grade camping adventure, the 8th grade tour of Washington, D.C., and the 9th grade retreat. Seniors cap off their journey at NCS with both an overnight retreat and a special end-of-year trip to the mountains of Tennessee—an experience that celebrates their accomplishments and strengthens the bonds of friendship and faith before graduation.

Mentoring

At Northside Christian School, students have opportunities to serve and build connections across grade levels. Fifth-grade students are invited to join the Safety Patrol, where they help younger students by walking Kindergarteners to class and assisting with car line duties.

Our seniors also play a special role as preschool buddies. Once a month, they spend time together reading, playing games, enjoying ice cream sundaes, or celebrating with fun events like a trunk-or-treat party. These relationships create meaningful bonds and highlight the value of service, leadership, and community at NCS.
